Nikki

Nikki

It was a cold, rainy and windy sunday afternoon.

Nikki and I had never met before, we got in contact with eachother through a modelling web site. I went to the location an hour early so I would have the chance to spot the right places to shoot later.

I wondered if Nikki would show up. The wind was cold and it surely would rain later on.

Waiting in my car, smoking a cigarette, she arrived. On a motorcycle!

We went to a cafe nearby and drank some coffee. We talked about the contract and about what we expected from this shoot. From the first moment the atmoshpere was just right. I felt comfortable with Nikki and I think she was comfortable with me. This is very important for the success of a shoot. Of course, you must not mess up the whole thing like I did...

I know my gear.
I know about the do's and don'ts.

And still...

In previous shoots I had problems with sharpness. I tended to choose a low f-number wich, of course, leads to a smaller depth of field. So, in this shoot, I put the aperture at 7.1.
ISO 200 (Sony a550 can not go below 200).

In the woods, on a overcast and sometimes rainy day, f/7.1 is too small. So, I got my strobes. Forgot my swivel, my umbrellas had no use at all...

All this together made this shoot a strobist shoot with less room for back ground influences. I tried to turn my shutterspeed down. As a form of damage control, but hey, the sharpness (movement) goes right down the drain...

Knowing this: take a look at the pictures again. I think there not bad at all!
